We are talking with Mr. Karol Wagner, host of the Pensjonat Sośnica*** in Zakopane.

• We have met to talk about ecology as the Pensjonat Sośnica has received a prestigious ECO Zakopane certificate?

• Indeed, we have gone through a complicated audit process and together with some other respectable objects we have been able to meet the strict requirements of the programme.

• But ECO Zakopane concerns mainly new objects and the Pensjonat Sośnica dates to the sixties. You have just taken me to see a standard room….

• I thought it would be a good idea to talk here in order to be able to better explain our concept of ecology. The creation of an ecological hotel in the new structure of the facility, that is implementing the requirements of the EKO Zakopane Chapter in a 53-year-old building was a real challenge.

• How is it possible to do it?

• The most important thing is the heating system and here we take advantage of the nearby geothermal sources. We also light with LED tubes, use tap aearators, sort rubbish and press it, and apply many other treatments that are commonly used in all environment-friendly hotels. We have accepted the ideology of METAECOLOGY!

• And what is it about?

• This is a procedure that minimizes the impact of the proces of renovation of the building on the natural environment. It is pleasant to go ecological in a new object but to transform our old structure and not generate waste may be regarded as an art. We entirely accept and implement the so-called EKO Repair Programme.

• And is this why we are in this room now?

• It would be quite easy to throw away everything from the balconies: tones of rubble, heaps of furniture, containers of waste, clouds of dust, and to use up kilowatts of electricity and hectolitres of water. We want to preserve the existing structure of the room but renovate the walls adding so-called vertical gardens. The furniture will be renovated, the bathroom refurbished by means of only exchanging the fittings and arranging it again. We are planning to use organic floor-covering made from the sea grass and use natural wood (sawmill waste) to make the trim for the lamps. Our plans also include using so-called gray water in the bathroom and, of course, LED tubes and aearators.

All this in order to make the room comfortable and pleasing aesthetically, but to minimize its impact on the environment during renovation and when it is in use.

• Well, I can say now that I understand what Metaecology is. And what is a vertical garden?

• This is a wall on which the real Podhale mountain pine will grow, which will make it possible to feel as if at the elevation of over 1.600 m without going out of bed. At least on the floor of the Tatra flora….

• It all sounds really great. I am trying to imagine such a room. When are you planning such changes?

• We are not only planning them but they are being carried out. I think we will be ready with the first demonstration room in December.

• Will you show it to us?

• Certainly, you are already cordially invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony. Of course, the ribbon will be made of natural wool.

• Then, there is nothing more left but to wish you perseverance and more success.

ECO Sośnica

Rozmawiamy z gospodarzem Pensjonatu Sośnica*** w Zakopanem, Panem Karolem Wagnerem.

• Spotykaliśmy się, aby porozmawiać o ekologii, bo Sośnica otrzymała prestiżowy certyfikat ECO Zakopane?

• Rzeczywiście z sukcesem przeszliśmy proces skomplikowanego audytu i znaleźliśmy się wśród kilku innych bardzo zacnych obiektów, którym udało się spełnić surowe wymagania programu.

• ECO Zakopane to głównie nowe obiekty, a Sośnica pochodzi z lat sześćdziesiątych. Zabrał mnie Pan do standardowego pokoju, w którym aktualnie jesteśmy. W jakim celu?

• W takim pokoju chciałem na żywo odnieść się do naszej koncepcji ekologii. Otóż stworzenie ekologicznego hotelu w nowej strukturze obiektu to zgoła nieporównywalne wyzwanie w porównaniu do wdrożenia wymogów kapituły EKO Zakopane w 53-letnim budynku.

• Właśnie, jak to wykonać?

• Najważniejsze jest ogrzewanie i tu korzystamy z Geotermii, świecimy LED-ami, lejemy wodę przez perlatory, segregujemy (za Gości) śmieci i je gnieciemy. Stosujemy jeszcze wiele innych zabiegów, które stosują wszystkie świadome hotele. U nas została przyjęta ideologia METAEKOLOGI!

• A cóż to takiego?

• To procedura, która ma zminimalizować oddziaływanie na środowisko podczas remontu budynku. Być ekologicznym w nowym obiekcie to sama przyjemność, ale przejść z naszej starej struktury i nie wygenerować odpadów to jest sztuka. Przyjęliśmy i realizujemy EKO Remont.

• Dlatego jesteśmy w tym pokoju?

• Łatwo by było wyrzucić przez balkon tony gruzu, sterty mebli, kontenery odpadów, chmury pyłów, zużyć kilowaty prądu i hektolitry wody. Chcemy wykorzystać gotową strukturę pokoju, odświeżyć ściany dodając wertykalne ogrody. Meble mamy poddać renowacji, łazienkę odświeżyć wymieniając sam osprzęt i aranżując na nowo. Zamierzamy użyć ekologiczną wykładzinę z trawy morskiej, natomiast z naturalnego drzewa (odpadów tartacznych) zrobić elementy wykończenia np. lampy. Chcemy wykorzystać tzw. szarą wodę w łazience i oczywiście użyć LED-ów i perlatorów.

Wszytko po to, aby pokój był maksymalnie komfortowy, przyjemny estetycznie, a do tego w minimalnym stopniu oddziaływał na środowisko przed oddaniem do użytku jak i w czasie użytkowania.

• Teraz rozumiem co to Metaekologia. A co to ogród wertykalny?

• To ściana, na której będzie rosła prawdziwa podhalańska kosodrzewina, czyli będzie się można przenieść powyżej 1600 m n. p. m, na tamtejsze piętro tatrzańskiej flory, bez wychodzenia z łóżka.

• Brzmi wspaniale, staram się sobie wyobrazić taki pokój. Kiedy Państwo planujecie takie zmiany?

• Nie planujemy, one już się dzieją. Myślę, że najpóźniej w grudniu będziemy mieli gotowy pierwszy pokój pokazowy.

• Pokaże nam go Pan?

• Oczywiście już jesteście zaproszeni na przecięcie wstęgi, oczywiście z naturalnej wełny.

• W takim razie nie pozostaje nic więcej jak życzyć wytrwałości i kolejnych sukcesów.
