Krakow very often wins in various rankings among Polish cities as to which are the best and most comfortable to live in. It’s not surprising. It has a beautiful Old Town, plenty of green spaces, many bicycle paths, and richly scenic surroundings on the outskirts of town. Recent investments in transportation infrastructure also contribute to the comfort of living here. Unfortunately, infrastructure for recreational activities on the open water is still lacking. However, investments planned for municipal spaces are changing this situation.

One example is the Bagry reservoir in the southwestern part of town. The surface area of the aquatic facility is more than 30 hectares. The reservoir emerged on the site of an old gravel quarry which was abandoned for decades. A recent program of revitalization has brought a pedestrian promenade, a beach, a bird-watching deck, and sailing equipment. As a result, Bagry has become an unusually popular location.

Now it’s the Przylasek Rusiecki’s turn. On the west side of town, this complex of 14 reservoirs of varying sizes was created by meanderings of the Vistula River. It was there where more than half a century ago gravel was dug up for the construction of the big steel mills that were going up nearby at that time. Like at Bagry, there will be a new promenade, along with a beach for children, bicycle trails, eateries, and sanitary facilities. There will be room to launch small boats, as well as paddle boats for rent. The total cost of the project will be around 10 million zloty.

Also undergoing development is Krakow’s most beautiful reservoir – Zakrzówek. This lake is also a former industrial site. It developed in the remains of an old quarry. It boasts emerald green water, and is surrounded by lofty cliffs, some reaching up to dozens of meters high. Artificial beaches are being developing along the shores, and there are plans for a large park on adjacent land.

While these facilities are designed to meet the needs of Krakow’s residents, they will certainly also appeal to tourists who seek out these kinds of attractions in particular.

Krakowianie bliżej wody

Kraków bardzo często wygrywa różnorodne rankingi polskich miast, w których żyje się najlepiej i najwygodniej. Nic dziwnego. Ma piękną starówkę, sporo terenów zielonych, dużo tras rowerowych, bogate krajobrazowo i przyrodniczo okolice. Również inwestycje komunikacyjne podnoszą komfort życia. Zaniedbana jest jednak infrastruktura do rekreacji nad otwartymi zbiornikami wodnymi. Inwestycje zaplanowane na terenie miasta zmieniają ten stan.

Przykładem jest zbiornik Bagry w południowo-wschodniej części miasta. Lustro wody liczy tam ponad 30 hektarów. Zbiornik powstał na terenie dawnej żwirowni, przez dziesięciolecia był zaniedbany. Ostatnio przeszedł rewitalizację, która przyniosła temu miejscu m.in. promenadę spacerową, kąpieliska, mola do obserwacji ptaków, wypożyczalnie sprzętu pływającego. Bagry stały się w efekcie miejscem niezwykle popularnym.

Teraz przyszła kolej na Przylasek Rusiecki po wschodniej stronie miasta. To kompleks 14 zbiorników wodnych o różnej wielkości znajdujących się w dawnym zakolu Wisły. O tam ponad pół wieku temu wydobywano wir potrzebny do budowy wielkiej huty stali, jaka wówczas obok powstawała. Tam także powstanie promenada, specjalne kąpielisko dla dzieci, ścieżki rowerowe, punkty gastronomiczne, zaplecze sanitarne. Będzie tam można zwodować niewielką łódź i wypożyczyć rower wodny. Całość ma kosztować ok. 10 milionów PLN.

Trwa także zagospodarowanie najpiękniejszego krakowskiego zbiornika wodnego – Zakrzówka. To również akwen powyrobiskowy. Powstał jednak na terenie dawnego kamieniołomu. Ma szmaragdowa wodę, a otaczają go wysokie nawet na kilkadziesiąt metrów skalne urwiska. W zbiorniku powstają sztuczne kąpieliska, a na sąsiednich terenach duży, ciekawie zaprojektowany park.

Te inwestycje adresowane są do mieszkańców miasta, ale także dla turystów, którzy zwłaszcza w sezonie letnim poszukują podobnych atrakcji. (b)

Krakau gewinnt sehr häufig in unterschiedlichen Ranglisten der polnischen Städte, in denen man am besten und bequemsten lebt. Das ist nicht erstaunlich. Es hat eine schöne Altstadt, zahlreiche Grünanlagen, viele Radfahrer-Routen, eine an Landschaft und Natur reiche Umgebung. Darüber hinaus erhöhen die Investitionen im Verkehr den Lebenskomfort. Vernachlässigt ist jedoch die Infrastruktur für die Erholung an Stillgewässern. Die im Stadtgebiet geplanten Investitionen werden diesen Zustand ändern.
