This year’s Jewish Culture Festival, which will be held mainly in Kraków’s Kazimierz district from 24th June to 2nd July, will be fascinating as its main theme is Jerusalem. One of the world’s largest Jewish cultural festivals, a festival born both in the diaspora and in Israel, its traditions and riches are focusing on an extremely multifaceted theme. – We will try to face up to the task of describing the many layers of the city and to show them so that a coherent image of Jerusalem emerges. This image will replace the myth of Jerusalem, or at least will become an important alternative, which will hopefully encourage people to visit it and to create their own image of the city – the organizers of the festival say.
The plans aim to showcase the richest seams of music from the city. Therefore, in many places throughout Kazimierz, and indeed across Kraków as a whole, it will be possible to hear not only klezmer music, jazz, and indie rock, but also cantor singing. The final concert, Szalom at Szeroka, will complete the evidence of this diversity.
The festival will also include interesting discussions. The Israeli archaeologist, Dan Bahat, and the writer and participant in the 1967 Six-Day War, Yossi Klein Halevi, will talk about the current political and social situation in Jerusalem. The cultural and religious life of the city will be presented by Naomi Bloch-Fortis, director of the Jerusalem Season of Culture, Father Paweł Trzopek, a Dominican from Jerusalem, and the Israeli musicologist, Abigail Wood.
The main visual project of this year’s festival will be the unique photographs of Jerusalem from the Dominican collection of the Ecole Biblique et Archeologique in Jerusalem, which will be exhibited in the ambulatory of the Dominican Church in Kraków. (b)
27. Festiwal Kultury Żydowskiej. W roli głównej – Jerozolima!
Tegoroczna edycja Festiwalu Kultury Żydowskiej, która odbędzie się od 24 czerwca do 2 lipca przede wszystkim na krakowskim Kazimierzu zapowiada się fascynująco. Tak jak jej temat przewodni – Jerozolima. Jedna z największych na świecie prezentacji żydowskiej kultury, tej rodzącej się w diasporze i w Izraelu, jej tradycji i bogactwa sięga tym razem po niezwykle wielowarstwowy temat przewodni. „Spróbujemy zmierzyć się z zadaniem opisania tych warstw i pokazania ich tak, aby wyłonił się z nich spójny obraz Jeruzalem. Obraz, który zastąpi mit Jerozolimy, albo przynajmniej stanie się dla niego ważną alternatywą i sprowokuje do odwiedzin i wykreowania własnego realnego obrazu tego miasta” – zapewniają organizatorzy festiwalu.
Najbardziej bogato prezentują się plany pokazania warstwy muzycznej składającej się na to miasto. W wielu miejscach Kazimierza, a i całego Krakowa usłyszeć będzie można muzykę klezmerską, jazz, indie rocka, ale też śpiewy kantoralne. Najpełniejszą prezentacją tej różnorodności będzie wielogodzinny kulminacyjny koncert festiwalu Szalom na Szerokiej.
Festiwal to także interesujące dyskusje. Izraelski archeolog Dan Bahat oraz pisarz i uczestnik wojny sześciodniowej z 1967 r. Yossi Klein Halevi będą opowiadali o obecnej sytuacji politycznej i społecznej Jerozolimy. Jej życie kulturowe i religijne życie miasta przedstawią natomiast: Naomi Bloch-Fortis – dyrektorka Jerusalem Season of Culture, o. Głównym projektem wizualnym tegorocznej edycji festiwalu będzie prezentacja unikatowych fotografii Jerozolimy, znajdujących się w kolekcji dominikańskiej Ecole Biblique et Archeologique w Jerozolimie, która zaprezentowana zostanie w krużgankach kościoła dominikanów w Krakowie.
Die diesjährige Ausgabe des Festivals der Jüdischen Kultur, die vom 24. Juni bis zum 2. Juli vor allem im Krakauer Stadtteil Kazimierz stattfindet, kündigt sich faszinierend an. So ist ihr Leitthema – Jerusalem. Eine der größten Präsentationen jüdischer Kultur auf der Welt, die sich in der Diaspora und in Israel entwickelt hat, sowie der Tradition und des Reichtums, die diesmal auf das unerhört vielschichtige Leitthema zurückgreift. „Wir versuchen uns der Aufgabe zu stellen, diese Schichten zu beschreiben und so darzustellen, dass aus ihnen ein kohärentes Bild von Jerusalem zum Vorschein kommt. Ein Bild, das den Mythos Jerusalem ersetzt, oder wenigstens eine wichtige Alternative dafür schafft und zum Besuch sowie zur Herausbildung eines eigenen realen Bildes dieser Stadt provoziert“ – versichern die Organisatoren des Festivals.
