• From the beginning of the year the International Cultural Center (ICC or MCK) has a new director. Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, who has been the deputy director for program management for the last six years, will move to the director’s position. She is replacing Prof. Jacek Purchla, an economist and art historian, and outstanding specialist in cultural heritage, who established the Center in 1991 and has been its director ever since. Ms Wąsowska-Pawlik has worked at the ICC since 1996. She is a specialist in the field of cultural institution management, museum curation, and protection of cultural heritage.

• There was another major event in the sports and events hall. The most important contests of the World’s Champions Clubs in men’s volleyball were played there. The Zenit Kazań team from Russia won the competition, defeating the Italian champions Cucine Lube Civitanowa 3:0 in the finals match.

• Five royal sarcophagi from the Zygmuntowski Crypt which were undergoing restoration in 2017 have been returned to the Wawel Cathedral. The artifacts conservationists undertook the restoration of the sarcophagi of Queens Anne of Habsburg and Barbara Zapoly, Princess Anna Maria Waza, Prince Aleksander Karol Waza, and King Stanisław Leszczyński.

• Elton John is finishing his concert career. On the same day that he announced his retirement, he announced that there would be a farewell concert tour that should run for three years, and will be called the “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour. Along the way, the artist will pay a visit to Krakow. The concert is planned for May 4, 2019 at the Tauron Arena.

• Kraków is intensively modernizing its public transportation system. City authorities have just signed several contracts for the delivery of modern, ecological buses from the Autosan company, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. They involve nearly 80 vehicles of various classes with a total value of almost 100 million zloty.

• Wojciech Świtała, who is a student of automation and robotics at the Mining and Metallurgy Academy has produced a graduation project that has sparked considerable interest on traditional and social media. Mr. Świtała is also interested in music, so he has programmed a Mitsubishi RV-2F-D industrial robot so that it can play any piece of music on the piano. It performed a concert as part of Mr. Świtała’s defense of his thesis.

• Od początku roku Międzynarodowe Centrum Kultury (MCK) ma nowego dyrektora. Została nim Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, która przez ostatnie 6 lat była tam zastępcą dyrektora ds. programowych. Zastąpiła na tym stanowisku prof. Jacka Purchlę, historyka sztuki i ekonomistę, wybitnego specjalistę od dziedzictwa kulturowego, który w 1991 roku Centrum założył i dotąd nim kierował. Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik pracuje w MCK od 1996 roku. Jest specjalistką w zakresie zarządzania instytucjami kultury, muzealnictwa i ochrony dziedzictwa kulturowego.

• W hali widowiskowo-sportowej odbyła się kolejna wielka impreza sportowa. Rozegrano tam najważniejsze mecze Klubowych Mistrzostw Świata w Piłce Siatkowej Mężczyzn. Imprezę wygrała drużyna Zenit Kazań (Rosja), której zawodnicy w finale pokonali 3:0 Cucine Lube Civitanowa, mistrzów Włoch.

• W katedrze na Wawelu ponownie znalazło się pięć odnowionych w 2017 roku sarkofagów królewskich z Krypty Zygmuntowskiej. Konserwatorzy zabytków poddali renowacji sarkofagi królowych Anny Habsburżanki i Barbary Zapolyi, królewny Anny Marii Wazy, królewicza Aleksandra Karola Wazy i króla Stanisława Leszczyńskiego.

• Elton John kończy koncertową karierę. W tym samym dniu, kiedy to ogłosił, poinformował że odbędzie jeszcze pożegnalna trasę koncertową, która ma potrwać 3 lata i nazywać się „Farewell Yellow Brick Road”. W jej ramach artysta ma wystąpić w Krakowie. Koncert planowany jest na 4 maja 2019 roku w hali Tauron Arena.

• Duże zainteresowanie w mediach tradycyjnych i społecznościowych wywołała praca dyplomowa Wojciecha Świtały, studenta automatyki i robotyki z Akademii Górniczo-Hutniczej w Krakowie. W. Świtała interesuje się również muzyką. Zaprogramował więc robota przemysłowego Mitsubishi RV-2F-D by ten mógł zagrać na pianinie dowolny utwór muzyczny. Do koncertu doszło podczas obrony pracy dyplomowej.

• Seit Anfang des Jahres hat das Internationale Kulturzentrum (MCK) eine neue Direktorin – Frau Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik, die in den letzten 6 Jahren die Funktion der stellvertretenden Direktorin für das Programm innehatte. Sie ersetzt auf diesem Posten Prof. Jacek Purchla, den Kunsthistoriker und Ökonomen, einen namhaften Spezialisten für das Kulturerbe, der das Zentrum im Jahre 1991 gegründet hatte und es bis jetzt geleitet hat. Agata Wąsowska-Pawlik ist seit 1996 am MCK beschäftigt. Sie ist Spezialistin im Bereich des Managements von Kultureinrichtungen, Museen und des Schutzes des Kulturerbes.

• In der Veranstaltungs- und Sporthalle fand eine weitere großartige Sportveranstaltung statt. Es wurden dort die wichtigsten Spiele der Klubweltmeisterschaften im Volleyball der Männer ausgetragen. Gewonnen hat die Mannschaft von VK Zenit Kasan (Russland), deren Spieler im Finale den italienischen Meister Cucine Lube Civitanova 3:0 bezwangen.

• In die Wawel-Kathedrale kehrten fünf im Jahre 2017 restaurierte königliche Sarkophage aus der Sigismund-Krypta wieder zurück. Durch die Konservatoren von Baudenkmälern wurden die Sarkophage der Königinnen Anna von Österreich (Anna von Habsburg) und Barbara Zapolya, der Prinzessin Anna Maria Wasa, des Prinzen Alexander Karol Wasa und des Königs Stanislaus I. Leszczyński einer gründlichen Renovierung unterzogen.

• Elton John beendet seine Konzert-Karriere. Am selben Tag, an dem er dies verkündete, informierte er darüber, dass es noch eine Abschieds-Konzerttournee geben wird. Diese soll 3 Jahre lang dauern und „Farewell Yellow Brick Road” heißen. In diesem Rahmen tritt der Künstler auch in Krakau auf. Das Konzert ist für den 4. Mai 2019 in der Tauron-Arena geplant.

• Kraków modernisiert sehr intensiv seinen öffentlichen Nahverkehr. Die städtischen Behörden haben bereits einige Verträge über die Lieferung von modernen, ökologischen Bussen mit den Firmen Autosan, Mercedes-Benz und Volvo unterschrieben. Es handelt sich um fast 80 Fahrzeuge verschiedener Klassen mit einem Gesamtwert von 100 Millionen PLN.

• Großes Interesse in den traditionellen und sozialen Medien hat die Diplomarbeit von Wojciech Świtała, dem Studenten der Automatik und Robotik der Universität für Wissenschaft und Technologie in Kraków hervorgerufen. Świtała interessiert sich auch für Musik. Er hat einen Industrieroboter Mitsubishi RV-2F-D so programmiert, dass dieser ein beliebiges Musikstück auf dem Klavier spielen kann. Ein Konzert wurde bei der Präsentation der Diplomarbeit gegeben.
