When international visitors think of the mountains of Lesser Poland province, they think mostly of the Tatra Mountains and Zakopane. Meanwhile, there are many beautiful mountain ranges, albeit not as high, located along the border with Slovakia, and in these there are many places worth visiting. For example, Krynica Zdroj. The second element of the name of the town means ‘spa’ in Polish. The therapeutic value of the springs in Krynica was recognized by the end of the 18th century. Soon people began building the first sanitariums. By the middle of the 19th century, Krynica was already known as a resort, and it enjoyed its golden age between the two world wars. It’s notable therapeutic waters, its location among the formidable Beskid forests, its rich culture and recently modernized spa and sports infrastructure, and its broad selection of hotels and restaurants attract many regular visitors.
Krynica’s attractiveness as a touristic destination in recent years has grown decidedly with the construction of a modern 2200 meter gondola ski lift near Jaworzyna which became the cornerstone for the development of one of the most extensive ski resorts possible in Poland’s geographical environment. The seat and T-bar lifts complementing the gondola give skiers access to a total of ten kilometers of ski runs.
The ski area is equipped with infrastructure for spreading artificial snow on the slopes, but the microclimate which is prevalent in the Krynica Zdroj area causes the winter season there to last especially long. In addition there are a number of smaller skiing operations in the area, as well as various other touristic attractions. For example the Nikifor Museum, devoted to the famous primitivistic painter, whose works continue to fascinate viewers with their charm.
Krynica-Zdrój: kurort i stacja narciarska
Dla gości z zagranicy małopolskie góry kojarzą się przede wszystkim z Tatrami i Zakopanem. Tymczasem wzdłuż granicy ze Słowacją rozlokowanych jest wiele pięknych, choć nie tak wysokich, pasm górskim, a w nich wiele miejscowości zasługujących na odwiedziny. Na przykład Krynica-Zdrój. Drugi człon nazwy tego miasta oznacza w języku polskim uzdrowisko. Lecznicze walory tamtejszych źródeł rozpoznano już w końcu XVIII wieku. Wkrótce zaczęto budować tam pierwsze domy zdrojowe, a w połowie XIX wieku Krynica była już znanym uzdrowiskiem, które świetny okres przechodziło między wojnami światowymi. Jego znakomite wody lecznicze, położenie wśród potężnych beskidzkich lasów, bogate życie kulturalne i unowocześniona w ostatnich latach infrastruktura uzdrowiskowa i sportowa, bogata oferta hotelowa i gastronomiczna przyciągają tam wielu stałych gości.
Atrakcyjność turystyczna miejscowości w ostatnich latach zdecydowanie podniosło wybudowanie nowoczesnej kolejki gondolowej na pobliską Jaworzynę o długości 2200 metrów. Stała się ona podstawą do zbudowania na Jaworzynie dużej jak na polskie warunki geograficzne stacji narciarskiej. Towarzyszące gondoli kolejki krzesełkowe i wyciągi orczykowe pozwalają narciarzom na korzystanie z tras narciarskich o łącznej długości 10 km.
Stacja wyposażona jest w infrastrukturę pozwalająca na śnieżenie stoków, ale panujący w okolicach Krynicy-Zdroju mikroklimat sprawie, że sezon zimowy trwa tam długo. W dodatku w okolicy istnieje wiele mniejszych ośrodków narciarskich i wiele innych atrakcji turystycznych. Na przykład muzeum Nikifora, słynnego malarza-prymitywisty, którego dzieła nadal urzekają swym wdziękiem. (b)

Zum Beispiel Krynica-Zdrój. Der zweite Namensteil bezeichnet einen Kurort in der polnischen Sprache. Die heilenden Eigenschaften der dortigen Quellen hat man bereits Ende des 18. Jh. erkannt. Kurz danach hat man begonnen, dort die ersten Badehäuser zu errichten, und Mitte des 19. Jh. war Krynica ein bekannter Kurort, der dann seine Blütezeit in der Zwischenkriegszeit erlebte. Seine ausgezeichneten Heilwässer, die Lage mitten in den riesigen Beskiden-Wäldern, ein reichhaltiges Kulturleben und die in den letzten Jahren erneuerte Kurort- und Sport-Infrastruktur sowie ein umfangreiches Hotel- und gastronomisches Angebot ziehen daher viele Stammkunden an.
